Transferring bioeconomic processes and techniques to urban structures and regions
Up to now, bioeconomic processes have been investigated and further developed seperately A systemic approach that not only takes individual aspects of the bioeconomy into account, but is holistically designed, has not yet existed.
The "urban BioökonomieLab" project of the Fraunhofer Institute for Interfacial Engineering and Biotechnology (IGB) in Stuttgart will focus on a systemic view of the sustainable bioeconomy and its holistic implementation in the regions. The aim is to enable the participating partner regions to successfully implement the transformation to a sustainable bioeconomy in a network.
The project partners are to develop concrete proposals for the circular economy in order to apply circular bioeconomic processes, materials and products to existing urban and industrial materials such as wastewater or waste, but also raw material requirements such as fertiliser or hydrogen. To this end, the Fraunhofer Institute is working together with urban pilot regions in Baden-Württemberg, hand in hand with local companies and authorities.
The Ministry for the Environment, Climate Protection and the Energy Sector is funding the "urban-BioeconomyLab" project for the period 2022 to 2024 as part of the state strategy for a sustainable bioeconomy.
